Homemade Ketogenic Diet For Weight Loss

This is another article in my series of homemade herbal diets. Today, I will share some important information on weight loss being possible with ketogenic diet which is high in protein and fats and virtually no carbohydrates. According to medical science, carbohydrates lead to insulin release, which is a very potent inhibitor of lipolysis (breakdown of lipids making it impossible for body to burn out fat) which means more fat.

Also, diets which are very low in fat make you terribly weak, as your testosterone and many other hormones and other substances are made of cholesterol. Also note the fact that there are essential fatty acids and essential amino acids but no essential carbohydrates. Another important fact is that the human body can live a whole lifetime without carbs and have no deficiency symptoms. Now, I will simplify ketogenic diet for you. Get more than 200 grams of protein a day, 100 to 150 grams of fat and a lot of fiber and water and your diet is ready at home. Below you can see a perfect example of ketogenic diet plan:

1.    Breakfast: 5 egg whites + 2 yolks + 2 spoons cheese
2.    Lunch: Half chicken + full plate of salad
3.    Dinner/post workout:  15 g whey + 10 egg white + 2 yolks

That is it, no rice, no bread, no dal, no milk, and no fruits, absolutely nothing which is a known source of carbohydrates. Follow this diet for 3 weeks at the comfort of your home to get a state of ketosis and then you can have one cheat day per week for 3 weeks, and then one cheat week. The idea is to cut down all carbohydrates. But green leafy vegetables, carrots, etc. are fine as long as the veggies don’t have carbohydrates. DASH diet to Stop Hypertension

Are you a blood pressure patient? Are you fed up of taking your blood pressure pills daily? Well today we will tell you the secret which will not only normalize your blood pressure but also will help you in your weight loss. The DASH diet lowers blood pressure as much as taking medication and the bright side is, it will do it without the risk of unwanted side effects. Meat, fish, poultry: 2 or fewer servings per day. Nuts, seeds, and beans: 4-5 servings a week. Fats and oils: 2-3 servings per day. Sweets: 5 servings a week.

To give you a proper idea, we are proposing this meal plan for you. Breakfast menu is: cornflakes (1 cup) with 1 tsp sugar, orange juice (1/2 cup), skimmed milk (1 cup), two bananas and a slice of whole wheat bread with 1-tablespoon jam. Recommended snacks during the day include dried apricots (1/4 cup), low fat yogurt (1 cup).

High blood pressure affects about one in four in the United States. It is defined as blood pressure consistently above 140/90 mmHg. High blood pressure is also known as the silent killer as it has no symptoms or warning signs. But the DASH meal plan is the most effective and it reduced blood pressure by 6 mmHg for systolic and 3 mmHg for diastolic for those without high blood pressure but the results were much better for those with high blood pressure, as the drop in systolic and diastolic was almost double at 11 mmHg and 6 mmHg respectively.

Homemade Recipe of South Indian Tomato and Onion Chutney

Below I am going to share with you the best recipes to make tomato and onion chutney like you find in South Indian restaurants around the world. This is an easy to make homemade recipe and has multiple benefits on your taste buds.


1.    Onions: 2 (cut into medium size pieces)
2.    Tomatoes: 2 or 3 depending on the size (cut into pieces)
3.    Small bunch of coriander leaves
4.    Red chilies: 2 ( depending again, how spicy you want it to be)
5.    1 garlic
6.    1 green chilly
7.    1 Tablespoon black gram (urad dal) (Make sure the urad dal is less, otherwise it masks the taste of onion and tomato).
8.    A little bit of asafetida (hing).


1.    Add one teaspoon of oil in a pan and fry the black gram dal, red chillies, and hing. While the black gram dal turns golden brown, transfer it to another vessel.
2.    Add the onions to the same pan and sauté until it becomes transparent, Now add the tomatoes and sauté again until they turn soft, add the green chillies and garlic also to it, While you are just about to switch off the stove, add coriander. You can add it raw too while grinding.
3.    Now in the mixer, run the black gram pulses, red chilles mixture, for a while. Add the onions, tomatoes mixture and grind until it becomes a smooth paste.
4.    Add enough salt and season it with coconut oil (again optional, you can use any edible oil) with mustard. It tastes really yummy.

Now serve and enjoy this tasty South Indian chutney recipe at home with masala dosa or idly vada whatever you like.

Simple homemade remedy to remove burnt smell from food and stains from utensils

Ques: During my cooking endeavors, I burn my utensils and also the items being cooked sometimes. Please suggest any idea to remove the burnt smell from pulses, sambhar, etc.? And is there an easy way to remove the burnt part in the utensil without having to keep scrubbing so much? I am always burning something at least one a week. I put something on the stove and go to play with my son and forget all about it.

Ans: This is something I can help with:
  1. To clean burnt stains from utensils, put 2 to 3 teaspoons of baking soda and some white vinegar into the vessel and pout hot water to make a sort of a paste over the burnt areas and leave it for half an hour. Then when you wash it, you won't have to scrub and scrub a lot.
  2. When you realize a dish has burnt at the bottom, then transfer it to a different bowl making sure not to scrape the bottom of the pan and add a few drops of lime juice to the cooked food. There would not be a burnt smell in the cooked dish.
  3. Now regarding your vegetable got burned, here is one more remedy. This works for vegetables that are served with gravy and not the dry ones. If your vegetable got burned, gently remove it in other vessel leaving the burnt part as much as possible. Now in a pan, make gravy recipe of onion and tomato and add vegetable in it.
This will remove the burning smell from vegetable at your home.

Answer: There are a few things you need to keep in mind with oily acne prone skin. Make sure you use a scrub twice a week to clean out your skin pores. Medicinal plants with antioxidant properties

Antioxidant capacities (oxygen radical absorbance capacity ORAC) have been studied in many plants. A few medicinal plants with antioxidant properties are:

Aloe vera , ocimum basilicum, salvia officinalis, aegle marmelos, murraya koenigii, Tinospora glabra, Allium satvium, Allium cepa, Calophyllum ionophyllum, Eravatamia alternifolia, Wrightia tinctoria, Mimusops elengi, Pterocarpus marsupium, carum carvi, taraxacum officianale, anethum graveolens, foeniculum vulgare, melissa officianalis levisticum officinale. poliomintha longiflora, mentha aquatica, salvia elegans, rosemarinus officianlis, thymus vulgaris, artemisia annua, mentha piperata, orac values and total phenolic contents have been estimated for these herbs.

Rodenticide plant

Question: I want to know the name of a plant (I don’t know whether it is a medicinal plant or not). I know very little about that plant. The plant is highly aromatic and its flowers are small, fragrant and purple in color. It is intentionally planted as rodenticide around houses in Aurangabad (Maharashtra).

Answer: Many plants are known to stop menace of rats, like Crotalaria plant known as Khulkhula or Artemissia gratus known as Chor ova Artemisia is an aromatic plant. There are many plants belonging to Labiate family (Basil) family known to posses anti pest properties.

The plant crotalaria verrucs - juncea belongs to Fabaceae family and is known to have snake and mouse repellent properties. I don’t know whether it is aromatic but the Crotalaeria species shows some bright flowers like blue, purple, pink etc. You can search Crotalaria species which also somewhat matches your description The plants which come under crotalaria as per local names are Taag, Suunnpushpi, and Khulkhula (Jhanjhaniya). The exact species for above is arguable so check out all Crotalaria species.

Homemade Herbal Recipe For BPH

Problem: Want to know effective home remedy for BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy or enlarged prostate) prostate weight 39 gm. Also suffering from diabetes mellitus well under control, age 51 year, urine frequency controlled by natural medications. No swelling, cannot empty bladder completely. Less urine flow when go to urinate have to wait for half to one minute before flow of urine starts, i.e., urinary hesitancy.

Remedy: Powder 2 tablets of Chandra prabhavati shilajit yukt. Below are a few homemade herbal remedies using amla.

Hyperacidity: 1 teaspoon Amla powder with milk, twice daily.

Diabetes: 1 teaspoon Amla juice with 1 teaspoon jambu beej powder, 1 cup bitter gourd juice, early morning.

Anxiety: 1 teaspoon amla powder could be soaked in one cup of water overnight and add 1/2 teaspoon pepper powder, 1 teaspoon lime juice, 1 teaspoon ginger juice.

Cataract: (1) Triphala: Eye wash is very effective. (2) Amla Rasayana: 1 teaspoon twice daily.(3) Chyawanprash : 2 teaspoon twice daily.

Piles (bleeding): Juice of Amla with 250 mg guduchi satva, twice daily.

UTI: Amla juice with 500 mg of turmeric powder twice daily.

Jaundice: Amla juice with 1 teaspoon of honey.
