DIET is a Four Letter Word – Change the Way You Think About Eating for Life

What comes to mind when you hear the word “diet”? For most of us diet really is a bad word. It implies limiting ourselves and being overly disciplined. Being on a diet implies a ball and chain that we have to wear for weeks, months, or even years. You’re not allowed to have any of the foods you like on a diet and you have to record or account for every bite of food that you have. Yes diet truly is a four letter word and that’s why it’s time to change the way you think about healthy eating.

Diets Are Always Temporary
Another thing that is common when people talk about diets is a time limit. People go on diets for a few weeks, or for a month, or for some kind of predetermined amount of time. That’s good until the minute the diet is over. People will cast off all restraint at the end of a diet and gorge themselves like crazy on the worst kinds of foods. What they end up with is the dreaded “Yo-Yo Weight Gain.” People go on a diet, lose a few pounds, go off that diet and gain the weight back. Some people spend their entire lives going up and down on this ride and it is a horrible ride to be on. That is why you have to stop thinking in terms of diet from this point forward.

Eating Right Is a Lifestyle

Stop thinking about the next diet and start taking steps towards eating healthy for the rest of your life. Begin to add more healthy fruits and vegetables to your diet on a regular basis. Take steps to up your fiber intake, and ease back on the junk food. Here are some tips to help you develop a healthy eating lifestyle that trumps every diet in terms of results.

• Structure meals so that you are eating 4 to 6 small meals a day instead of a few large meals.
• Have a lean source of protein, like chicken, fish or lean beef with every meal.
• Have a fruit and vegetable serving with every meal.
• Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water every day. Drink more when exercising or out in the heat.
• Replace white breads and flour products with whole grain alternatives.
• Add nuts, seeds and beans to at least two of your meals every day.
• Have a day every week where one of your meals is a “fun food” that isn’t necessarily healthy, but will help keep you sane and enjoy eating. Use this meal as a reward each week for sticking to a healthy eating lifestyle.

If you add these easy to do eating rituals to your eating plan, you will be done with diets for life. You may find it tough for the first month, but stick with it. After a month or so of eating this way, it will become your “new normal” You will get used to eating this way. You will feel better, and you will lose unhealthy weight too. So, no more diets for you – you are on the healthy eating for life plan from now on.

Should You Add Dietary Supplements to Your Diet?

The sports nutrition business is a multi-billion dollar industry. There are tons of products available at the local supermarket or health food store that all promise to increase muscle mass, speed up fat loss and give an extra burst of energy when you need it. If you try to keep up with taking every “breakthrough” supplement on the market, you will soon find that you are losing a lot of weight, but it will all be from your bank account.

Before you start taking supplements to make your diet healthier, think about what the word supplement really means. When you supplement, you are replacing something with something else. In other words, you are replacing the nutrient in your diet that you could, or should be getting from whole foods, with a powder, or capsule. This idea isn’t necessarily bad, but you should try to think in terms of getting what your body needs from whole foods before you start to take a lot of supplements.

If you take the time to make sure that you are eating several nutrient-dense meals a day and you are still missing some things, you probably should look at some of the supplements on the market. After all, if you are working out hard, it can be difficult to eat enough meals to get all of the protein that you need to build your muscles.

Here are the supplements that should be at the top of your list for maintaining a healthy diet.

• A good multi-vitamin. Even if you eat a very healthy diet of whole foods, you probably aren’t getting optimum levels of all the vitamins and nutrients that your body needs. A good multi-vitamin can help you get healthy levels of all the necessary vitamins and minerals that you need.

• Quality Whey Protein. Many people fall short of getting adequate protein intake when working out. Your body needs the amino acids found in protein to repair your muscles after a hard workout. The best protein blasts you can get are from Whey Protein Isolate supplements. This kind of protein is very lean and easily absorbed by your body, especially after hard workouts.

• Fiber & Fish Oil. The last two pieces of your nutritional supplement foundation should be a fiber supplement and fish oil supplements. Both of these inexpensive nutritional supplements are packed with healthy ingredients that everybody needs more of. Fiber intake should be high for everyone. More fiber will help you avoid digestive problems and keep your digestive system regular. Fish oil contains valuable Omega fatty acids that are essential for good health and vitality. Be sure to add these two supplements to your diet.

Avoid the temptation to always go after the most popular supplements on the market. Instead concentrate on eating clean and having the essential supplements mentioned in this article. You’ll be a lot healthier and you’ll save some money too.

Natural Remedies For Dry Mouth Xerostomia

Xerostomia is the most common manifestation of salivary dysfunction, is a decrease in salivary secretion. Although not considered a disease per se may imply the presence of alterations directly related to salivary glands or the result of systemic disorders.

The etiology of xerostomia is the result of several conditions of reversible or irreversible types among which are cancer therapies (radiation and/or chemotherapy), surgical therapy, intake of medicines, autoimmune diseases like Sjogren's Syndrome and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, psychological disorders, and others.

The importance of saliva is based on the elements that make up and how they conduct their activities within the oral cavity. These functions are affected when salivary flow decreases and impacts on quality of life of these patients, who may have difficulty eating sleeping, and speaking. On clinical examination, the presence of extensive decay, the occurrence of opportunistic infections such as candidiasis and oral mucosa causes dry mouth symptoms.

It is therefore important for the dentist to recognize this condition by a proper diagnosis of patients with "dry mouth syndrome" or searching its etiology and determining the secretory capacity of salivary glands, all with the purpose of applying the treatment but appropriate for the patient.

Xerostomia, also known, as dry mouth syndrome, is an extremely annoying problem and does not leave in peace to all who suffer from this. For this reason, trying to implement a home remedy can be really helpful. Here I offer some tips to be able to combat this problem:

Xerostomia, also known as dry mouth syndrome is a problem that may be due to many factors, from dental to a possible obstruction in the salivary ducts. The truth is that some natural remedies can help stimulate saliva production. For cases like these, it is important also to change some habits in your daily life. For starters, it is always good to have some sugar-free mint gum by hand, avoid alcohol and snuff (causes of dry mouth), to hydrate properly (7 liters of water a day) and not spend too long without eating food because this also causes xerostomia.

The Right Type of Diet for Weight Loss

For many of us, losing weight and keeping it off is a constant, uphill battle that is often lost. We all know that being overweight or obese is extremely unhealthy, but often it just seems much easier, and tastier, to eat whatever we like, and worry about the consequences later. Unfortunately, when later comes around, we are so discouraged with ourselves for letting our diets go that we just end up eating even more unhealthy comfort foods, such as burgers, fries, potato chips and other delicious treats. So, is there really a good way to stop this vicious cycle and start living a healthy life, once and for all? Yes, and it doesn't even have to be all that difficult.

Getting the Right Nutrients

In order to make sure that your diet is a healthy one that will promote weight loss, it is important to make sure that you are getting all of the proper nutrients. Many health organizations recommend a diet that is made up of 50% carbohydrates, 15% fats and 35% proteins - all macronutrients that are necessary for our good health, even our survival. Many foods that are high in protein are excellent for weight loss diets, as they leave you feeling fuller longer, taking away that urge to snack on junk food throughout the day. Protein is a natural source of energy, and is necessary for building, repairing and maintaining muscles and other soft tissues.

Getting the Exercise You Need

In addition to following a healthy diet, it is also important to get enough exercise. You certainly don't have to go out and exercise four or five hours a day, but a half hour of exercises each day is often recommended. Just going for a walk counts as exercise. If you are really out of shape, it is probably wise to start out slowly. Just walk, or do whatever type of exercise you choose, for five to ten minutes, and build up over a few days or weeks. In no time at all, it will be nothing at all to exercise for a half an hour, and you may just finding yourself even wanting to do more.

When you follow a healthy diet and get enough exercise, you will find that you are able to easily lose that extra weight, and maintain your new weight. Remember, never lose so much weight that you end up underweight, as this can be as unhealthy as being overweight. Find a healthy balance, and you will have a long and healthy life.

Cook easily digestible dal pulses for 6 to 12 month old babies

It is also better to fry dal and rice once before you cook it for 7 months old. It is easily digestible. I have given in the same way for my daughter, until she was 1 year old. That was a suggestion from my doctor and generally elders say that too.

Also when my daughter was 7 months old, I used fry the rice and soak it, then put it in sunlight until it gets dry and grind it. Then i used to pressure cook it. Then it used to become a nice paste which is easily digestible. I continued this until she was 9-10 months old.

You can also fry and powder the rice and pulses just before serving the baby, soak the powder and pressure cook. This can be done easily.

How Society Treats Overweight People

For centuries, it was a sign of beauty to be somewhat overweight, and to have a “little meat on your bones”. In fact, it was considered to be sexy. Just look at Marilyn Monroe, who to this day is considered one of the most beautiful women in the world. She was a size 14. So, why all of a sudden is it so important for people to be skinny? And why are people looked down on when they are overweight?

Society Overlooks the Overweight

It is a really sad thing to say, but many people get overlooked for many things, simply because they are overweight. This happens all of the time, in all kinds of different situations. This often begins during childhood. Children who are overweight or obese often teased and left out of things that their classmates are doing. This can really do some damage to a child's self esteem. Think about when you were in school. Even if you were slim, didn't it make you feel bad if you were the last one picked to play a game of tag or Simon Says?

Sadly, this doesn't change much as people get older. Overweight people are often overlooked for employment, with many of the better positions (especially those that are in the public eye) given to those who are slim and attractive. It even happens in every day life. At parties and clubs, overweight people are often the ones who are sitting down while their friends are up dancing and having a good time. This isn't because they don't want to have fun, but because no one is inviting them to have fun.

What Needs to Be Done to Change Society's Way of Thinking About Body Image?

It's not something that is going to happen overnight, but the way the world thinks about overweight people can change once again. It is essential that television programs and movies start using more actors who actually look like real people, and that the fashion industry use even more plus sized models than ever (in addition to the new rules about weight restrictions, which are a great first step).

The first place to start changing society's attitude is in childhood, when many prejudices are formed. Education is the key to having a more understanding society, one that is accepting of everyone, no matter their weight, color, race, religion or sexual identity.

Want to Lose Weight and Get Into Shape? Get a Dog!

One of the things that hold a lot of us back from getting into shape is a lack of motivation. This can be easily overcome if you just go out and get yourself a dog. Dogs need lots of attention and exercise, and when you play with a dog, you are getting exercise yourself, and you're having so much fun that you don't even realize it.

Dogs Make Great Walking Companions

When you have a dog, you will have to force yourself to start taking walks, or longer walks if you already take short ones. Dogs have loads of energy, and will want to go for long walks, so you will be getting plenty of exercise and fresh air. Most dogs love to run, so if you are really energetic, you can take your dog jogging instead of simply going for a walk. And, unlike people, you can go for a long run or walk without hearing any complaints from others who are tired or sore and want to go home. Your dog will walk or run with you all day long if you let it.

Agility Classes Are Great for You, Too

If you have, or are thinking about getting a dog, you may be interested in taking it to agility classes. This is a great way to teach your dog obedience, as well as give it the exercise it needs. And, you will be getting exercise too, because you will be continually walking your dog through the course. The same holds true for obedience classes, where you will be training your dog to walk beside you, so you are getting exercise there too.

Playing at the Dog Park Can Be Great Exercise

You can get lots of exercise when you take your dog to the local dog park. Fun games of tug of war with favorite toys is a great way to build up muscles in your arms, especially if you have a large or strong dog, and of course, there are always fun games of "chase" to be had. Fetch is great exercise for you too, because after a while, dogs usually figure it out that if they don't go and fetch whatever you have thrown, you will go and get it for them. Again, you are getting lots of walking in.

So, as you can see, you don't need to join an expensive gym or health club to get into great shape. All you really need is a dog to get all of the exercise you need.

How to Eat Healthy so You Can Build The Strongest Muscles?

The way to bulk up is to eat and eat for increase in size.  However, you cannot just eat what you want.  You have to consider what foods you have to take in to keep yourself fit and healthy.   The quality and type of food is also crucial as the amount.
The first you have to consider is protein.  Your muscles are made up of complex protein fibers that break down every time you train yourself.  There are a lot of natural protein sources and protein supplements available for you to bulk up.  Chicken, poultry, beef, pork, legumes, mushroom, tofu, fish, eggs, all of them are rich in protein that can help you build up muscle.  You need to have at least 50g of protein in every meal to give you a supply of protein for muscle build up.  For you not to get tired of eating protein, cycle the type of protein that you eat.  You may eat chicken today and have legumes tomorrow.  Go healthier by eating broccoli with beef and oyster sauce.  You do not have to eat protein alone per se.  Kick it up a notch by adding in vegetables to give your immune system a boost.
When you eat protein, you will have to trim down fats.  That is, animal fats.  Saturated oils and trans fats are not good for your body as they help build up fat as well as atherosclerotic plaques that cause hypertension.  Still, you need fat in your diet to dissolve vitamins that are crucial for your immune system.  The fats that you do not need to cut out will be Omega-3 fatty acids that help get rid of bad cholesterol and maintain your nervous system.  Olive oil is considered a good fat for it helps you clean your system as well as speed up your metabolism for muscle building.
Keep in your carbs in a good level to further give your body enough energy for building muscle.  It is recommended that you eat 4-6 helpings of carbs a day for energy.   Good carbs come from pasta, rice, bread, or potatoes to your protein dishes to compliment your diet.  Stay away from sugar, doughnuts, and other foods loaded with empty calories for they only help build up fat and muscle.
It is not that hard to eat healthy as long as you know your dietary requirements for the day.  Balance your meals in accordance to your level of activity for a more effective use of nutrients for weight gain.
